Catherine Todero, PhD, RN, FAAN is a retired Professor and Dean Emeritus of Creighton University College of Nursing. She served Creighton for eight years as nursing Dean and served also as the Vice Provost Health Sciences for Creighton’s Omaha & Phoenix Campuses. Dr. Todero has had extensive academic leadership experience. Prior to her appointment at Creighton University, she served as Associate Dean and site director for four years at Azusa Pacific University’s campus in San Diego and as the Director of the School of Nursing at San Diego State University for five years. While in California she was appointed to the California Board of Registered Nurses and served as the chair of the nursing Education Committee. Prior to residing in California, she spent most of her academic career (26 years) at the University of Nebraska Medical Center where she was an Associate Dean and interim Dean and oversaw all undergraduate programs on four campuses across Nebraska; two of which she helped to launch. She has experience teaching at all degree levels of nursing, ASN, BSN, MSN and PhD.
Dr. Todero is the recipient of many awards including most recently: Distinguished Service Administrator Award – Creighton University; Israel Faculty Fellowship - Jewish National Fund; Wharton Executive Fellow Leadership Institute -AACN; Fellowship in the American Academy of Nursing -ANA, San Diego State University “Top 25” President’s Award and the University of Nebraska- University-Wide Departmental Teaching Award. She is a prolific grant writer and has attained over $26.6M in programmatic awards from federal and state sources for nursing education and approximately $1.8M in research funding on circadian rhythms and shiftwork. She has been active in professional nursing organizations throughout her career and has served several organizations as an officer including CCNE, Sigma Theta Tau, and Association of California Nurse Leaders. She is a member of the ANA Academy expert panels on Nurse Fatigue and Bioethics. Early in her career, and prior to becoming a nursing education administrator, Dr. Todero was a surgical intensive care staff nurse and a Captain in the U. S. Army Reserves 82nd Field Hospital.
